Bible study: Allegiance… Being in Subjection to God.

We have been learning about obeying God(Me and Mum). This is a very important part of our FAITH. Giving our allegiance to God is what we will do when we have FAITH in Him. Today, we are going to learn what it means to be in subjection to God.

DICTIONARY: Subjection

(1. to subjugate.

2. To submit for consideration.

3. To submit to the discipline or authority of; make amenable.

4. To render liable to something; expose.

5. To cause to experience or undergo.)

STRONG’S: Subjection

(Greek #5293; To subordinate; to obey; be under obedience, put under; subdue unto; be, make subject to; be put in subjection; submit self unto.)

What do you think subjection means now? If we put this towards God, it means to obey or to be in obedience to Him, to be subject to God … We could also say it means to be his loyal subjects, couldn’t we? … To submit ourselves unto God. There is a scripture which says, “It’s no longer I that liveth, but Christ who liveth in me!” We need to be to the point where we know our Heavenly Father’s will through his word and His Spirit, that we will be in subjection to Him as much as possible!!

READ: 2 Corinthians 9:13

“While, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men.”

Hebrews 2:8

“You have put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.

Hebrews 12:9

“Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of Spirits and live?”

According to these scriptures, we are to be in subjection to God. Another word that would describe what subjection means is SUBMISSION, or SUBMIT.

READ: Romans 10:3

“For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.

James 4:7

“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

These scriptures point to submitting to God, but we are also suppose to submit to one another …

READ: Ephesians 5:21

“Submitting to one another in the fear of God.

1 Peter 5:5

“Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

In order to submit to one another, we must be HUMBLE. HUMILITY is a very important thing we must attain. The opposite character trait of humility is pride. What do you think God thinks of PRIDE? … Let’s read what his Word has to say about it.

READ: Proverbs 8:13

“The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.”

Proverbs 11:2

“When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.”

QUESTIONS: Does God like pride?

Of course not!

Is pride evil?

When pride comes, what comes with it?

Shame, Shame, Shame.

What is with the lowly or humble?

READ: Proverbs 13:10

“By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom.”

Proverbs 16:18

“Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud.”

Proverbs 29:23

“A man’s pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor.”

QUESTIONS: What comes with pride?

With those who have much counsel or well-advised comes what?

What comes after pride?

What brings about a fall?

A haughty spirit!

What will uphold the humble of spirit?

Can a prideful person be in subjection to God? … Does God like pride in men? … We need to be of a humble and contrite spirit. Only a person that is humble can be in subjection to another. This would mean that you would have to put someone else’s wishes above your own. This would be hard to do if you didn’t love the one who you are submitting to. But, we love God more then ANYTHING and if you love someone, you will want to please them. Obeying God pleases Him!

Thank you everyone for listening, I will always do some Bible teachings every few days on what I have learned. God bless and talk soon.
